This guide walks you through everything you need to configure the Trade Copier — from creating your first copy group to choosing the right per-follower settings for contract quantity, instrument conversion, and execution mode. By the end, you’ll have a fully configured copy group ready to replicate trades from your leader account to one or more followers.

Prerequisites

Before setting up the Trade Copier, make sure the following are in place:
  • At least two broker accounts are connected to Tradespace — one to serve as the leader and at least one to serve as a follower.
  • Both accounts must use supported brokers (NinjaTrader, Tradovate, Rithmic, or ProjectX/Topstep).
  • Recommended: Test your copy group configuration with a sim or demo account before enabling it on live accounts.

Creating a Copy Group

1

Open the Trade Copier

Navigate to Trade Copier in the left sidebar of the Tradespace app.
2

Create a leader group

Click the Add New Leader button
3

Select your leader account

Under Leader Account, choose the connected broker account whose trades will be replicated to all followers in this group.
4

Add a follower account

Click the Add Follower Account(s) button and select the connected account that should receive and replicate the leader’s trades.
5

Configure follower settings

Set the contract quantity, instrument conversion, and execution mode for this follower. See the Follower Settings section below for a full description of each option.
6

Enable the copy group

When you’re ready to go live, flip the copy group toggle to Enabled. Tradespace will immediately begin watching the leader account and replicating trades to all configured followers.

Follower Settings

Each follower account in a copy group has its own independent settings. Adjust these to control exactly how that follower responds to leader activity.
integer
Under Quantity Mode, select either ‘Multiplier’ or ‘Fixed Qty’. For multiplier, the value entered will be decimal based value like 2.4 or 1.2. This will increase the qty of the follower account by this multiple. Choose Fixed Qty and the follower will only trade this exact qty, regardless of the qty the leader account is trading.
string
Under the ‘Order Convert’ column, choose between Disabled, Mini or Micro. Map the leader’s instrument to a different instrument on the follower. For example, if the leader trades ES, you can set the follower to trade MES instead. Leave at disabled to trade the same instrument as the leader. See the tip below for common conversion pairs.
select
Under the column, ‘Instrument Conversion’, choose between Execution mode or Order Mode. Controls how the follower responds to leader activity. Choose Order Mode to mirror the leader’s orders as they are placed (same type, size, and direction), or choose Execution Mode to wait for a confirmed fill on the leader and then replicate via a market order. See Trade Copier Overview for a full comparison.

Testing Your Setup

Before enabling the copy group on live accounts, place a small test trade on the leader account in a simulation or demo environment and confirm that each follower receives and replicates it correctly. Check that:
  • The follower receives the order with the expected contract quantity.
  • Instrument conversion (if configured) routes to the correct symbol.
  • The execution mode behaves as you intended — either mirroring orders in real time or waiting for a confirmed fill.
Once you’re satisfied with the simulation results, you can switch both accounts to live and re-enable the copy group with confidence.
Enabling a copy group that contains live accounts will immediately begin replicating trades. Any order placed on the leader will be sent to all followers the moment the group is active. No orders currently submitted prior to enabled will be copied, only orders submitted after enabling the leader. Double-check all follower settings — contract quantity, instrument conversion, and execution mode — before flipping the enable toggle on a live group.
Use instrument conversion to trade micro contracts on follower accounts for lower risk exposure per copy. Common pairs: ES → MES (E-mini S&P 500 to Micro E-mini S&P 500) and NQ → MNQ (E-mini Nasdaq-100 to Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100). Micro contracts are one-tenth the size of their standard counterparts, making them ideal for accounts where you want to participate in every trade with a fraction of the capital at risk.
